No reviews

A simple, fluffy powdered sugar frosting that can be made as classic vanilla or easily transformed into rich chocolate with one extra ingredient.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: About 3 cups (approximately 48 servings)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (optional, for chocolate frosting)

Instructions

  1. Cream the confectioners’ sugar, butter, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the milk while beating, starting with a small amount, until the frosting becomes light and fluffy.
  3. For chocolate frosting, add the cocoa powder and beat again until fully combined.
  4. Adjust consistency by adding a little more milk if needed until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

Notes

Sifting the sugar helps keep the frosting smooth and lump-free.

Add a pinch of salt to balance sweetness if desired.

Almond extract can be substituted for vanilla for a flavor variation.

Re-whip frosting after chilling to restore fluffiness.
