Ingredients
1 ½ cups light brown sugar
1 cup soy sauce
½ cup pineapple juice (optional)
½ cup water
¼ cup vegetable oil
3 large garlic cloves, chopped
4 pounds boneless round steak, cut into ¼-inch slices
Bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together light brown sugar, soy sauce, pineapple juice (if using), water, vegetable oil, and chopped garlic.
- Add the beef slices to the marinade and stir to coat evenly.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 24 hours to marinate.
- After marinating, remove the beef from the marinade, shaking off any excess liquid. Discard the marinade.
- Thread the beef slices onto the soaked bamboo skewers in a zig-zag pattern.
- Preheat the grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Grill the skewers for about 3 minutes per side, or until the beef is cooked through and slightly caramelized.
- Remove from the grill and serve immediately.
Notes
For a spicy twist, add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the marinade.
You can use chicken, pork, or shrimp in place of beef.
For a vegetarian version, swap beef for tofu or tempeh.
Add chopped pineapple or mango to the skewers for a tropical burst of flavor.
Thread vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or zucchini for a complete meal.
