These Sausage Cheese Butter Swim Biscuits are a game-changer for breakfast or brunch. Packed with savory breakfast sausage and melted cheddar cheese, all baked to perfection in a pool of rich, golden butter. No fuss, just pure biscuit goodness.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 9 biscuits

Ingredients

1 pound breakfast sausage

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 3/42 cups buttermilk

1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup salted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Spray a 9×9-inch glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Cook breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes until no pink remains. Drain the sausage on paper towels.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add buttermilk and stir until a sticky batter forms, adding more buttermilk if needed.
  4. Gently stir in the shredded cheese and cooked sausage.
  5. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish. Add the biscuit dough on top and spread it evenly. Cut the dough into 9 squares.
  6. Bake on the middle rack for 25-30 minutes, rotating once, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean. If the biscuits are browning too quickly, cover them with foil.

Notes

Spicy Sausage: Swap the breakfast sausage for a spicy variety to add a kick to these biscuits.

Different Cheese: Experiment with different cheeses, such as Monterey Jack or pepper jack, for a unique twist.

Add Herbs: Add a teaspoon of dried herbs like thyme, rosemary, or oregano to the dough for extra flavor.

Vegetarian Version: Use plant-based sausage and dairy-free cheese for a vegetarian or vegan-friendly version.
