Ingredients
1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
1 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup assorted toppings (pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, etc.)
Optional: melted garlic butter or olive oil for brushing
Optional: red pepper flakes or Italian seasoning for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a round baking dish or cast-iron skillet.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
- Add desired toppings such as pepperoni, olives, or mushrooms.
- Cut the dough into strips about 2 inches wide.
- Gently twist each strip and stand them upright in the prepared baking dish.
- Brush the tops with melted garlic butter or olive oil if desired.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm. Serve with extra pizza sauce or marinara for dipping.
Notes
Brush the top with melted garlic butter or olive oil before baking for extra flavor.
Try different cheeses such as provolone, cheddar, or parmesan for a richer taste.
Use pesto, Alfredo, or barbecue sauce as alternatives to pizza sauce for variety.
For a vegetarian version, use bell peppers, onions, spinach, and mushrooms as toppings.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
Reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes to keep the crust crisp.
