Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp tomato paste
1/3 cup ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 slices garlic Texas toast (frozen or homemade)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven and bake garlic toast according to the package directions until golden and crispy. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for 4–5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over each slice of baked garlic toast.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and broil for 3–5 minutes until melted and lightly golden.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
Use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
Add a splash of barbecue sauce or smoked paprika for deeper flavor.
Double the recipe and serve buffet-style for parties.
Always toast the bread until crisp to prevent sogginess.
Store leftover beef mixture in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
